MMM - 41 Hitachi makes some well-built and reliable tools. This is my unsolicited review of the 18V Lithium Ion Drill / Driver combo that I purchased at the end of 2014. See video for greater details. For the average DIY / woodworking enthusiast:
Price: Comparable to any good brand. Less expensive than Dewalt, more expensive than Black + Decker, comparable with Bosch. It's worth whatever price you pay for it, but there's no shame in waiting until a deal is going on.
Power: Excellent! The 18V Li-ion batteries are high performers, in my opinion. They last a long time before needing to be charged (four weeks or so with regular shop projects), and they provide the tools with plenty of energy to crank out all of that drilling/driving torque you need. Additionally, the hammer setting on the drill is superb.
Design: Ergonomic to the point of artistry. My weak wrists never complain after using them. Incredibly balanced. Stylish. Simple and intuitive.
Improvements: My one wish would be for Hitachi to find a way to magnetize the chucks for the drill bits and drivers so that no matter what bits you're using they would magnetically hold screws.
